For Immediate Release
The Russell Fork Rendezvous is set to kick off on Friday in Elkhorn City, KY. The 2016 festival will feature a full stage and performances on both Friday and Saturday nights. Bands scheduled to play include Restless Leg String Band (Lexington, KY), The Tadcasters (Cincinnati, OH), Driftwood Gypsy (Cincinnati, OH) and Vivian Leigh (Lexington, KY).
Rendezvous, a celebration of paddling culture and camaraderie, is an annual pilgrimage for many members of the whitewater community. It started in 1994 with an informal down river race of the Russell Fork River. As popularity of the river grew, so did the gathering. Live music was added a few years later, and when the Russell Fork was listed on American Whitewater’s most endangered rivers, local musicians stepped in to amp up the party and the fundraising efforts.
While Rendezvous has been held every year since its inception, the formality of the event has varied from year to year, and logistical issues surrounding live music contributed to a lapse in performances in recent years.
Live music was re-introduced on a small scale last year, with bands Moonshine District and Cory Lancto (The River Funk).
This year’s performances are included in the festival’s $15 cash entry fee. A complete schedule, including live music, can be found here.
Russell Fork Rendezvous will be held at Carson Island, in Elkhorn City, KY, from October 21-23, 2016. Camping is first come, first serve and the event is open to the public. All proceeds benefit American Whitewater. For more information, visit russsellforkrendezvous.com.
